House at Inchrory

A contemporary three bedroom family home near the village of Beauly.

This project was commissioned by a local couple who had acquired a site on the outskirts of Beauly with commanding views to the south east over the Beauly Firth and to the mountains in the west. The site on purchase held planning permission for a generic kit house which was not designed to maximise sunlight or views.

The brief: to design a three bedroom family home in a contemporary style which also satisfied the Planning Authority’s requirement for traditional proportions.
The external materials are a simple combination of wet dash render, timber cladding and lead dormer windows, whilst inside the living space is situated on the first floor, with open plan stair and hall making use of the buildings entire volume and orientated with a huge triangular window facing the best views. Kitchen and open plan dining / snug space open onto a south west facing deck with triple sliding doors allowing the rooms to spill outside and benefit from the sunsets over the mountains.

The project is due for completion in spring 2009.
